GALEN -
Ok, so this is Sunday (day two) of our mission trip to Camalu in the Baja of Mexico. It is a beautiful thing to wake at five-thirty in the morning to the sound of ocean waves crashing against the shore...So that´s what I did. Then Michelle, and I went for a walk to get the juices flowing and hopefully to lose a little weight. We made a deal to do this each morning of this week.
By eight-o´clock we were all packed in the vans and on our way to breakfast. Two hours later the morning church service began. Juan Jose (our minster here in the Baja) spoke first and led us in several songs. Then Clint and Matt presented the first of a two part lesson on communication. The second half was presented in the evening service. At the conclusion of the morning service we were blessed to have three new sisters in Christ. Baptized were - Berta Martinez, Guillermina Martinez and Marta Rodriguez. Here in Mexico, baptizms are taken very seriously and two of the women failed to ¨verbally¨express their surrender to the Holy Spirit of God (the first time) and requested to be baptized a second time...just to make sure the did it right. NOW THAT IS SERIOUS!
We went back to the hotel to freshen up and returned to the church for an afternoon lunch that consisted of a choice of Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches or Ham and Cheese. Then our prep work for the week began. Michelle, Bev, Cheryl and Laura did all of the prep for the medical work to be done for the week.
Hannah, Ruth, and Bev prepared the personal care bags to be given away later in the week.
Jo, Clint and Cheryl had already set up breakfast, but continued to be actively involved in almost every activity that required assistance throughout the afternoon.
David led a large group of Americans and Mexican youngsters around to several neighborhoods, passing out invitations to the church this week. Among that group were - Naomi, Jodi, Morgan, Chuey, Pedro, Denzel, Sameul , Jose Miguel, and Angel Luis.
Since I have been crowned a designated driver (this was done to make sure that I´d never be late to make it to any event - grin) I drove Kelsie, Ruth, Hannah, Patrick, Josephine, to do some shopping and Internet cafe-ing. Kelsie, Stephen, Patrick and I later went back to an open air market (Mercado al aire libre) where Patrick and I purchased hats and Kelsie and Stephen purchased drinks made with the water that will most certainly give them something to talk about later...if you know what I mean. It´s time for dinner and devos - then off to bed.
More to come...
