This is Galen. Today is Tuesday July 28th. This is our second workday and yesterday around this time, we had changed at least 2 tires on the Baja Mission vans. I haven´t been keeping a tally, but I think that this now makes 4 Tire changes. Apparently someone or a group of someones have been dumping clusters of long caperter nails outside in the areas where we normally park the vehicles and this has led to more flat tires than I have ever seen since coming here to Mexico. So, yes, we are "tired" of changing tires. The Tire changing crew (so far) has consisted of David, Juan, Galen, Mateo, Clint, Misael, Arturo, Jerry, and a few others i cannot recall.
Today we began the design work (drawing and masking) the inside classrooms for the teens and younger kids. The design we decided upon is a blend of something old and something new. For those of you who have artistic minds, imagine a JACKSON POLLOCK overlayed with navy blue silhouettes of children riding bikes, playing soccer, skate boarding, running, jumping rope and playing. This is what we began today and hope to have completed by Friday morning.
Currently, the contruction crew is pouring cement and constructing a ramp outside the church builing - making it wheelchair accessible for our young friend Maria. The really impressive and adorable thing to watch s the young boys (Angel-Luis and Denzel, who are about 3 feet tall and 9 and 11 years old) as they dig out the trenches. These kids work like grown men. When they play, they play like any other child, but when they work; the only thing that differentiates them from the adult males is that when the adults get tired... the kids are still working.
Jo has been keeping fed and we are all currently swine flu free. Clint and Sheryl are governing this body of people with velvet hands. Jason and Patrick have coordinated the classes and implimented them well. JENNA, SARAH, SARA-ELIZABETH, KIM AND SARA, AMANDA, JODI, HOPE, MORGAN, (I have affectionately named them the AGP -All Girl Posse) are working hard and keeping the kids entertained. Ricky and Drew are the only ones that can keep up with boys. My friend Jerry Mairose Told me yesterday, that this is the type of thing he really needed. It´s the same for me. - more later...
