GALEN -
We´ve been here in Baja Mexico (California) things have changed constantly. When Clint held our first meeting, one of the things he was quick to tell us was that we go to Camalu to work, we must be prepared for things to change from day to day and even minute to minute. That is pretty much the way things happened yesterday after I began the post.
Originally, I was supposed to work with David and his crew on building beds. Then a few of the girls decided they wanted to work with him so I bowed out gracefully and prepared to work with Clint on the roof of the house we are working on. Unfortunately, Clint and Matt left and that left me to fill in the blanks around the church. That included going out on ¨material¨runs and playing with children, helping Jo in the kitchen, preparing for two bible lessons (one for teens and one for adults) as well as acting at the group photographer.
Today is Tuesday the twenty-ninth and it began pretty much as previous days with an early morning walk down a dusty road with Michelle and Ruth by the Pacific Ocean, back to the rooms to shower and then to breakfast. Work was quick to follow. Yesterday David, Patrick, Jason, Morgan, Naomi, and Jenna built ten bed frames. The mattresses were delivered today and this afternoon (probably right now while I am updating this blog) the beds will be delivered. Clint Moore has the roof project almost framed and ready for metal surfacing.
Michelle and I went on two ´material¨runs and she is now working with Cheryl painting and caulking the Teen classroom in the church building. Sara and Kimberly Wood have now officially become professional ¨WOOD¨ workers. Under the supervision of Stephen Byers, they cut holes for two doors in which the knob and locks will be placed. It is twelve-fifty-one right now and Juan Jose, his wife Flor, Laura, Ruth and Hannah went to Vicente Guerrero. They took several people including children with them to the dental clinic. We just ate lunch and now the afternoon work begins.
Bill and Stephen have added locks to two bathroom doors today already. I´m not sure how many more are left.
This evening I teach the teen class.
The Spanish of each of us is improving rapidly.
More to come.
